Kirill Maslov presented current approaches to the protection of the interests of shipowners for claims for compensation for damage to cargo
June 28, 2016 at the Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel took place the "First Seminar on Maritime Law and Insurance" in St. Petersburg, organized by MaxMarine and Oakeshott Insurance. The seminar brought together more than 60 representatives of Russian Shipowners. During the event, Russian and foreign lawyers, insurers and brokers presented new alternative approaches to the protection of the interests of shipowners by insurance and law.
The main topics of presentations were: the financing of maritime claims, the choice of the dispute settlement body, the choice of secure insurance coverage, the settlement of cargo claims. Based on a deep understanding of the status of marine insurance companies of the Russian market by MaxMarine and Oakeshott Insurance were presented alternative approaches to the insurance of ships, shipowners' liability, based both on account of national specificities and features of the insurance market, and on the western approaches leading insurers and insurance brokers.
The workshop was made by managing partner of AB SPb «Inmarin» Kirill Maslov, who in his speech and the presentation highlighted a number of organizational and legal measures, which can help the ship owner in a dispute with the conditions of the cargo transported as cargo to remove the arrest from the ship and unload the goods. Kirill Maslov said that ship owners are advised not only to take measures to lift the arrest, but also to structure relationships with cargo owners in a way that would exclude his direct responsibility. The speech aroused the audience's interest and many questions on the specifics of the implementation of recommendations in a variety of situations.
The event was an excellent platform for an open dialogue of policyholders, insurers, brokers and lawyers, aimed at the effective functioning of the market of maritime law and insurance services.
