Registration of a vessel and the rights to it in the Russian International Register of Ships (hereinafter - RMRS) provides the shipowner with a number of significant advantages as compared with vessels registered in other registries of vessels of the Russian Federation, including:

- Ships registered in the RMRS are not recognized as objects of taxation on property tax and transport tax of the court registered in the RMRS;
- Registration in the RMRS entails the granting of a preferential tax regime providing for the payment of only state fees for the initial registration of a vessel in the register and for annual confirmation of such registration.
- The insurance premium rate for compulsory pension insurance is 0% for policyholders who make salary payments and other payments to members of the crews of vessels registered in the RMRS.
In order to take advantage of all the above advantages and other preferences stipulated in the law, the vessel must meet the requirements and demonstrate the conditions stipulated for registration in the Russian International Register of Ships with part 7 of Article 33 of the Merchant Shipping Code of the Russian Federation. If the vessel meets any of the requirements of this norm, it may be registered in the Russian International Register of Ships.
